Crickets have round heads, long antennae, and powerful hind legs for jumping. They are mostly nocturnal and usually hide in dark warm places during the day. They are best known for the loud persistent chirping song of male crickets rubbing their front wings together trying to attract females.

Crickets Behavior

Crickets mate in late summer and lay their eggs in autumn. The eggs hatch in the spring and have been estimated to number as high as 200 per fertile female.

Crickets are omnivorous scavengers who feed on organic materials, including decaying plant material, fungi, and some seedling plants. Indoors, house crickets can feast on fabric and are especially attracted to clothes soiled with perspiration. Crickets have relatively powerful jaws, and several species have been known to bite humans.
